Professional Geological Tours in Georgia: Explore the Earth’s History
Our specialized geological tours in Georgia are organized by our team with academic precision and a deep passion for earth sciences. Georgia is a unique natural laboratory, situated at the dramatic collision zone of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates. These expeditions provide an immersive experience into the complex lithology, volcanology, and structural geology of the Caucasus. If you wish to combine these scientific field studies with active mountain trekking, our routes are perfectly integrated with our Adventure and Hiking in Georgia programs.
Scientific Highlights of Our Expeditions
During our geological tours in Georgia, participants have the rare opportunity to study a vast range of rock formations and geological processes in situ:
Lithological Diversity: Detailed observation of sedimentary sequences including psephytolithic, siltolithic, and peltolithic layers.
Volcanic Formations: Study of Neogene and Quaternary lava flows, spectacular basalt columns, and obsidian (volcanic glass) deposits.
Tectonics & Stratigraphy: Analysis of the crystalline basement, metamorphic complexes, and fossil-rich organogenic rocks.
Speleology & Karst: Exploration of limestone cave systems, underground rivers, and unique hydrological erosions that form the backbone of our eco-friendly Nature & Eco-Tours.
Main Geological Routes
Currently, all our specialized expeditions are conducted in two primary scientific directions, departing directly from the historic capital of Tbilisi:
South Georgia Volcanic Plateau (Meskheti & Javakheti): This route focuses on the Neogene volcanic heritage. Highlights include the Gujareti lava flows, the world-famous tuff-cut complex of Vardzia, and the massive obsidian fields of Mount Chikiani.
High Caucasus Tectonic Range (Khevsureti & Kazbegi): A journey through the structural backbone of the region. Explore the Abudelauri glaciers near Roshka, the mineral-rich Truso Valley, and the dormant stratovolcano of Kazbegi.
General Expedition Logistics & Policy
To ensure a professional and comfortable experience, all our fieldwork follows strict organizational standards:
Expert Support: Groups are accompanied by professional translators (English, German, or French) and field experts. Wherever you travel, reliable mobile connection (MagtiCom, Silknet/Geocell) is available for communication.
Transport: We utilize specially selected 4×4 vehicles, minivans, or buses tailored to the specific terrain and group size.
Catering & Accommodation: We provide 3 to 4 meals daily, including traditional Georgian cuisine. Meal times are adjusted to seasonal daylight (starting earlier in summer and later in winter) to maximize fieldwork time.
Group Size: We organize both individual and group expeditions. Standard groups typically consist of 4 to 6 members to ensure a personalized scientific experience.
