Our Historical Tour Georgia is an immersive 10-day journey through the cultural layers that shaped the Caucasus. From the footprints of the first Europeans to the golden age of medieval kingdoms, discover a land where history is carved into cliffs and painted on ancient cathedral walls.
Your adventure begins in the vibrant streets of Old Tbilisi, but the real “time travel” starts on the second day in Dmanisi and Bolnisi. The Dmanisi archaeological site is of global significance; the 1.8 million-year-old hominid remains found here prove that Georgia is the site of the earliest human settlement in Europe. In Bolnisi, we explore the Bolnisi Sioni (5th century), home to some of the oldest Georgian inscriptions and the iconic Bolnisi Cross.
Day three is dedicated to Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral represent the peak of Georgian Christian architecture. This is followed by a visit to Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave city dating back to the 1st millennium BC. Walking through its rock-hewn halls, you will witness the fascinating transition from pagan cults to early Christianity.
On day five, we venture into the semi-desert landscape to visit the David Gareja monastery complex. From there, we head to Samtskhe-Javakheti. In Akhaltsikhe, the beautifully restored Rabati Castle showcases a rare harmony of diverse cultures. The climax of this part of the Historical Tour Georgia is Vardzia, a magnificent 12th-century cave city. Along the way, we stop at Khertvisi Fortress, one of the oldest citadels along the Silk Road.
The tour concludes in the winemaking heartland of Kakheti. In Telavi, we visit “Batonis Tsikhe,” the palace of King Erekle II, while the Gremi architectural ensemble brings the former brilliance of the Kakhetian Kingdom to life. Finally, we reach Sighnaghi, the “City of Love,” offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Alazani Valley.
Our Historical Tour Georgia is designed specifically for history lovers. During this Historical Tour Georgia, you will experience the very best of our country’s heritage with professional guides and comfortable transport. Your journey through time ends with a return to Tbilisi for departure.
