Batumi

Absarus is an ancient name of Roman castle – Gonio fortress. It is located in the southern part of west Georgia 14 kilometers from Batumi. There are many historical informations about Gonio fortress. Information about the fortress by Afsarosi name is lastly mentioned in 7^th, 8^th historical sources.  Gonio fortress holds several hectars. The Castle fence has about twenty towers. On the territory of the fortress there is a museum in which 2000 years old exhibits are protected.

Kutaisi city is the oldest city of Georgia. It is first mentioned in Greek’s historical sources in 8th century bc by the name of “Kutaia”, which represented the capital city of Kolkheti kingdom. Argonaut’s well-known story is also connected to the kingdom of Kolkheti.

Gelati architectural complex was built by David IV, also known as David the Builder in 12th century. It is located 12 kilometers from Kutaisi. Gelati is special for its array, architecture, paintings, mosaic.
With Gelati Monastery in 1106 year famous Gelati Academy was established. It represented a theological institution, where geometry, arithmetic, music, philosophy, grammar, astronomy was taught.
During its existence Gelati was the property of the royal family, that’s why the kings of the feudal age of Georgia are buried there. Gelati Monastery Complex is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monument with multicultural values.

Tour to Geguti Palace

Geguti Palace is 7 kilometers away from Kutaisi and is located on the territory of Tskaltubo.
The palace was built in 8th – 12th centuries. It represented the royal palace of the royal family and also it was the fortress. At first Geguti palace belonged to Georgian Kings residence, but lately, in feudal times it was in possession by Imereti Kings residence.
Geguti palace was destroyed at the beginning of the 19th century. Only ruins are preserved.
At the end of the nineteenth century the first researcher of Geguti Palace was swiss researcher and professor Dubois de Montpéreux.
