Prometheus cave
Prometheus cave is located 40 kilometers from Kutaisi on Tskaltubo’s territory. The cave belongs to karstic caves group. Stalactites, stalagmites helictites, stone turned waterfalls, underground rivers and lakes are presented in the cave. The climate here is humid and it has healing features for those who suffer from the asthma disease. The temperature is thirteen-fifteen degrees in winter and in summer.
Tskaltubo is located in western Georgia near Kutaisi. Historical information about Tskaltubo exists from 7th century. In Tskaltubo there are a lot of healing waters, which are pretty famous from the middle centuries. The abundance of mineral waters has led to establish some balneology resorts in the city. 6th spring’s sanatorium was built specially for Stalin.
Senaki city is located in central area of western Georgia. It was first mentioned in historical sources in the beginning of 17th century.
Fortress town Nokalakevi, Archeopolis in Greek language is located in central part of western Georgia, near Senaki. It was built in 3rd century bc. Stealing the golden fleece by Argonauts is related to Nokalakevi location.
Including the 8th century, Nokalakevi represented the kingdom of Egrisi, capital of Lazika. In 8th century Arabs destroyed Nokalakevi, which revived once again in 16th, 18th centuries.
Martvili is a small, beautiful town in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti province of Western Georgia. The population of the town is about five thousand residents. The existence of a compact settlement on Martvili territory is confirmed by 9th century historical sources.
Martvili Canyon is located in Khoni municipality, on the territory of village Gachedili. The Canyon has extraordinary beauty. Here you can find the remains of seventy million years old ancient animals, hollow bones and ancient humans traces.
After seeing Prometheus Cave, the group will return to Batumi.
Former UNESCO monument
Bagrati Cathedral is located in Kutaisi. It was built by the king Bagrat III in 11th century. The remains of 8th century bc antique construction and 6th century bc basilica are discovered below the cathedral. Bagrati Cathedral is one of the best monuments of architecture and art of medieval Georgia. Architectural ornaments of the cathedral attract great attention. On the floor there is a trace of mosaic, on the walls you can see painting and fresco arrears. Bagrati Cathedral with Gelati Monastery Complex was a UNESCO World Heritage Site but due to improper implementation of restoration works on it has been removed from the list of UNESCO monuments.
UNESCO monument
Gelati Monastery architectural complex was built by David IV, also known as David the Builder in 12 century. It is located 12 kilometers from Kutaisi. Gelati is special for its array, architecture, paintings, mosaic. With Gelati Monastery in 1106 year famous Gelati Academy was established. It represented a theological institution, where geometry, arithmetic, music, philosophy, grammar, astronomy was taught. During its existence Gelati was the property of the royal family, that’s why the kings of the feudal age of Georgia are buried there. Gelati Monastery Complex is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monument with multicultural values.
Batumi is the second-largest city of Georgia, located on the coast of the Black Sea in the southwest side of the country. It is 30 kilometers away from Turkish border. Batumi is an industrial and a port city. Domestic and international flights are carried out from Batumi Airport.
